Question: I was testing the new J2RE 1.4.2 for compatibility with our
programs (written on Java 1.2.2 version) and found that the Installation of the
J2RE on Windows has changed, with impact on the supported locales...
Answer: Yes, you are right. this is written
in release notes for J2RE 1.4.2:
There now is a single installer, which by default installs a runtime with
support for European languages if the Windows host system only supports such
languages, or a runtime with support for all languages if the Windows host
system supports at least one non-European language. Users can request
installation of additional languages in a custom setup. For complete information
